Entry with child

When entering the country with children, it is important to note that identification is mandatory. Not only for the adults, but also the traveling children need a child ID and even newborns need a passport to be allowed to leave at all.

Adolescents under the age of 14 are not allowed to travel unaccompanied. Young people between the ages of 14-17 require written consent from a parent or guardian.

Once in Sweden, however, your vacation with children will be quite easy, as Sweden is considered one of the most child-friendly destinations in all of Europe. There are many special discounts for families with children. Depending on the provider, you can save money on entrance fees, restaurants, hotels or campsites during your family vacation in Sweden.

Entry with pet

Dogs, cats and ferrets require an ID tag, a valid vaccination against rabies, a valid EU pet passport and must be registered with customs in the respective country of travel.

Your dog must be at least 15 weeks old at the time of entry and if you are entering with more than five animals, additional special regulations apply. You can read more about this here.

Driving in Sweden

  • If you travel to Sweden by car, you should know that fines and penalties for traffic violations are much higher than in Germany and that there are no tolerance limits for speeding.
  • The blood alcohol limit in Sweden is also much lower than in Germany. Thus, the limit of 0.2 per mille may not be exceeded. Those who drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol can expect a penalty of up to two years in prison.
  • Furthermore, dipped headlights must be used all year round, even during the day.
  • A toll is charged in the inner city areas of Stockholm and Gothenburg.

Expansion of mobile network

If you are going on a cycling or hiking tour in Sweden, or if your vacation home is located in a more remote area, it may be that the mobile network is not developed there.

So take the necessary precautions when preparing your trip and find out if there is a landline in your vacation home, for example, or let your loved ones know that you may not be available for a while.
