How do we calculate emissions?
The calculation of CO2-Emissions with this calculator is based on the MRV procedures, which requires shipping operators to submit their yearly fuel and traffic figures for verification.
The MRV results in an emission factor of the unit gCO2/ton*nm, which stems from dividing the emissions related to freight transport by the freight transport work. The emissions per route comprise of the individual vessel’s emission and transport work figures on the respective services in 2024, thus accounting for the specific vessel assignment, schedule and operations on each route.
