COVID-19 Travel Advice for Germany

The safety of our customers has our fullest attention and is always our top priority! On this page you will find all important and necessary information for your crossing to Germany and the corona regulation within Germany.

On board of our ships we still take all the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and the associated disease of COVID-19. As a safety precaution, we continue to recommend that all of our passengers wear masks in the publicly accessible areas of our ships. The 3G rules no longer apply on board of our ferries. Please consider still the applicable entry and return regulations.

  • Who is generally permitted to enter Germany?

Generally, entry is permitted for residents from

    • EU member states
    • Schengen-associated countries: Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein
    • Other countries. Most current information can be found here
  • What are the entry requirements when entering Germany or returning from a risk- or high risk area?

    Entry from abroad:

For entries from other countries (which are not classified as virus variant areas), no special requirements apply for entry. In particular, no registration is necessary and no proof of testing is required.

Entry from a virus variant area:

    • A digital entry declaration must be carried out.
    • A daily negative test result is required. Proof of vaccination or convalescence is not sufficient.
    • PCR tests (not older than 72 hours) and antigen tests (not older than 24 hours) are accepted.
    • Testing is not compulsory for children under 6 years of age.
    • A 14-day quarantine must be observed at one's own expense.
    • No "free testing" is possible.

You can read about the current high-risk areas on the RKI website.

  • Which consequences will a positive test result have?

In case of a positive COVID-19 test result before entering or returning to Germany, the following must be observed according to the Corona regulations:

    • entry to the Federal Republic of Germany as a German citizen is expressively permitted
    • According to the Federal Government's decree, we as carriers are not allowed to transport persons without a negative Corona test result
    • Contact your local health authority, which can grant further exceptions for individual cases and for specific reasons and thus grant permission for carriage
  • Which COVID-19 tests are accepted for entering Germany?

Generally, methods of nucleic acid amplification technology (PCR, LAMP, TMA) and antigen tests are accepted. Rapid antigen tests are accepted if they meet the minimum criteria recommended by the WHO. Antibody tests are not accepted.

The test result shall be kept for at least 10 days after entry and must be presented to the competent authorities upon request.

  • Do I have to wear a mouth-nose protection?

Masks are still compulsory in public transport, as well as in clinics, doctors' surgeries and nursing homes.
In all other public areas, it is no longer mandatory to wear a mask. However, stores, museums and other institutions may continue to prescribe the use of a mask by virtue of their domiciliary rights.

  • What are the current restrictions in public life?

The 3G, 2G and 2G-plus regulations no longer apply. Access restrictions for restaurants, stores and other facilities as well as for events no longer apply.

Please inform yourself additionally about the individual restrictions of your respective federal state and at your responsible health department of your region.
