Nils Holgersson / Peter Pan
The names of our passenger ships sailing to Travemünde have been inspired by two well-known and much-loved stories:
NilsHolgersson The Swedish author Selma Lagerlöf’s classic ‘The Wonderful Adventures of Nils’ was written as a reading book for elementary school and is about Nils Holgersson, a boy from Skåne. He was transformed into a dwarf as punishment for his laziness and nastiness. By chance Nils gets on the back of a goose and flies with her and her flock on a trip across the whole of Sweden. After returning home from this adventure, he was transformed back into a normal boy for his bravery and courage.
Peter Pan
In 1904 the book ‘Peter Pan’, written by the Scottish novelist James Barrie, was published. The book is about a boy, Peter Pan, who lives in London. He decides not to become an adult and instead of growing up and becoming sensible, he flies one night to the island of Neverland with his friends. This is a place where life is an adventure and you don’t have to grow up. Peter Pan returns occasionally to visit children and adults in their dreams and takes them to visit Neverland for a few hours.
